The Inception of an Interactive Sculpture
I began by listing the materials, technology, tools, concepts/ideas/themes,
influence/inspiration, site/location/platform, and audience I had used of wanted to use in the past. The most important part for me was the concepts/ideas/ themes section for because it challenged me to think about what I am
passionate about in relation to the other categories.
I then isolated myself in the
classroom and played music and began using my list to combine an idea. The concept of emotion and my desire to create an interactive sculpture helped build my mind map. I started listing the materials and tools that I knew I
would probably use based on my past works. I did have a challenging time figuring out how
I wanted to include data visualization and decided to isolate it in my mind
map. I am still trying to figure out if I will be able to include it or do I need to make a second project that relates.
In the end, I decided to
create an Interactive Sculpture that uses a sensor to create a response with
LED lights. I focused on the concept of light therapy for Seasonal Affective
Disorder. I was thinking about how people’s relationships with technology tends
to be negative. Technology tends to control us - it makes a noise, and we tend
to the notification. What if our technology tended to us where we could talk
share our feelings and it would response with lights?
Our share time was short but the
feedback I received indicated that I could create something with a sensor and a
response of lights, but would have to keep the principle qualities of it
simple.
